Professor Wan Decheng Was Elected the Tenth Council Member of Shanghai Overseas Returned Scholars Association(SORSA)

On October 20, 2018, the tenth member congress of SORSA was held in the friendship hall of Shanghai exhibition center. More than 600 member representatives and special guests attended the meeting. This congress is the general meeting, elected the tenth council. Professor Wan Decheng was elected to the tenth council. Professor Decheng Wan is also the vice president of the Britain branch of SORSA.
Zheng Miaogang, the member of CPC Shanghai municipal committee and head of the united front work department, and Wang Pijun, secretary of the party group and secretary general of China Overseas Returned Scholars Association, attended the opening ceremony and gave speech. The ninth President of the council Pei Gang gave an opening speech. During the congress, the delegates also reviewed and adopted the revision report of the constitution made by Sheng Huanyu, the work report of the change of the constitution made by Peng Yu, and the financial report made by Zhu Lingling, and adopted the resolution of the tenth general meeting of the members. Report on the work of the ninth counci was passed, and the tenth council was elected. At the first meeting of the tenth council, Pei Gang, an academician of the Chinese academy of sciences and former President of Tongji university, was elected as the new President.
SORSA is a voluntary non-governmental organization of scholars returning from overseas study in Shanghai and a high-level talent group covering a wide range of areas. In October 1913, Western Return Scholars Association was founded in Beijing. In June 1919, SORSA was founded. Since September 3, 1984, there have been five presidents of SORSA, namely Feng depei, Xie Shi, Yan Dongsheng, Wu Ji, and current President Pei Gang. As of June 30, 2018, the member number of SORSA has exceeded 14,000, among which the number of overseas members is more than 800. SORSA is becoming a talent pool for overseas students, a think tank for advice and advice, and a fresh force in developing folk diplomacy.
