PhD students Duan Muyu, Tang Zhenyuan and Master Xu Lian’s graduation defence successfully held

       On May 24, 2017, two doctoral students Duan Muyu, Tang Zhenyuan and Master Xu Lian of the research group defended their dissertation in B801 Mulan Shipbuilding Building of Shanghai Jiaotong University. The participating experts replied Chairman Fan Yanming (No. 708 Research Institute of China National Shipbuilding Industry Corporation), Dong Guoxiang (Shanghai Institute of Shipping Science), Professor Zou Zaicing (Shanghai Jiaotong University), Professor Zhang Huaixin (Shanghai Jiaotong University), and Professor Jiasong Wang ( Shanghai Jiaotong University) and instructor Wan Decheng.
       Dr. Duan Muyu has independently developed the solver viv-FOAM-SJTU for the problem of vortex-induced vibration of slender flexible risers, and details two aspects: First, the theoretical basis for the development of the solver, the development and implementation of the solver, and the standard-based problem. The second is based on the solver to carry out a wide range of applied research. All the experts agreed that the workload of the paper is large, the research content is rich, and the research results are comprehensive and reliable. The solver viv-FOAM-SJTU developed by openfoam has high versatility in the field of numerical prediction of vortex-induced vibration, and its reliability The paper is highly innovative.

 
       The doctoral student Tang Zhenyuan introduced the overlapping particle technology and multi-resolution particle technology in the meshless particle method MPS in detail, and further developed the overlapping particle module and multi-resolution particle based on the MLParticle-SJTU solver. Experts attending the meeting affirmed their excellent work in the direction of the particle method. The content of the paper is detailed and organized, and it is highly innovative.

 
       Master Xu Lian, based on the JONSWAP spectrum and NPD wind spectrum design, uses ANSYS and Orcaflex software as tools, and uses static and time-domain response analysis methods for floating storage tanks and their mooring systems to verify oil spill recovery. The paper proposed the scheme with strong applicability, simple manufacture, convenient installation, and good economy; the content of the paper is rich and the method used is correct. Full and accurate, the results are credible; the work of the thesis shows that Xu Lian’s students have a clear understanding of the research background and research objectives, mastered the related professional knowledge, and have the ability to independently analyze and solve practical engineering problems.

 

 
       Duan Muyu and Tang Zhenyuan successfully passed the defense of their doctoral thesis, and Xu Lian successfully passed the defense of the master's thesis. They expressed their gratitude to the teachers for their attendance and guidance. At the same time, the three students also expressed their sincere gratitude to the instructor, Professor Wan Decheng. The last three students took photos with the respondent teachers, instructors, and members of the research team.
