On October 27, 2017, two doctoral students Wang Jianhua and Zhang Youlin of the research team pre-defensed for the doctoral dissertation at Room B801, Mulan Shipbuilding Building of Shanghai Jiaotong University. Wang Jianhua's doctoral thesis is entitled: “Numerical Study of Ship Maneuverability Based on Overlapping Grid Technology.” Zhang Youlin's doctoral thesis titled: “MPS-FEM method and its application in fluid-structure interaction problems.” The participating experts were Prof. Zou Zaojian (Shanghai Jiaotong University), Prof. Yang Chenjun (Shanghai Jiaotong University), Prof. Zhu Renchuan (Shanghai Jiaotong University), Prof. Fu Shixiao (Shanghai Jiaotong University), Prof. Chen Zuogang (Shanghai Jiaotong University), and Professor Wan Decheng.
Wang Jianhua's main work is to use overlapping grid technology to handle the coupling of the ship's propeller and rudder, and combined with the regional wavemaking method to increase and develop a functional module for ship manoeuvring in the naoe-FOAM-SJTU solver. The teachers put forward many valuable opinions on the structure and content of the paper. At the same time, they gave concrete guidance on the conciseness of the paper's innovation points, which provided great help for the next paper's improvement.
Zhang Youlin analyzed the key technologies for numerical simulation of fluid-structure interaction in ship and ocean engineering. He introduced the basic theory of MPS coupling with FEM and the implementation process of the coupling method. He developed a fluid-structure coupled solver MPSFEM-SJTU based on this method. The solver is applied to fluid-solid coupling problems such as two-dimensional and three-dimensional tank sloshing. Finally, the dissertation defense committee commented on the content of the doctoral dissertation, and proposed specific amendments to the issues in the title, abstract, innovation, and main content of the article.
Wang Jianhua and Zhang Youlin successfully passed the pre-defense of the doctoral dissertation and thanked the teachers and students for their guidance and help.
